Welcome to Title I Reading

My name is Amanda Malkey. I am one of three Reading Specialists that provide Title I services at West Hills Intermediate School. This year is my 26th year of teaching. I was a Reading Specialist in the Burrell School District for six years before coming to the Armstrong School District in 2004. I have had the pleasure of working in numerous elementary buildings in the district over the past eighteen years. I have been in my current position at West Hills Intermediate School since 2010.

I was originally from the Natrona Heights area and attended Highlands High School. Upon graduation, I attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education with a Concentration in Reading. At the graduate level, I attended the University of Pittsburgh. There I earned my Reading Specialist Certification, Masters of Education in Reading, Curriculum Coordinator and Supervisory Certifications, and Principals K-12 Certification.

I moved to Armstrong County in 1999. I currently live in North Buffalo Township with my husband Todd and my two daughters, Mackenzie and Mackayla.

I am delighted to have your child in my Title I class this year. I am looking forward to a very successful year. Nothing is more rewarding than helping a child improve upon their reading skills. Reading is important, because if you can read, you can learn anything about everything and everything about anything.

Finally, I want you to know that one of my most important goals this year is to keep the lines of communication open with you. I am available every day to talk with you between 8:40 a.m. and 9:05 a.m. and between 3:15 p.m. and 3:40 p.m. My planning period is also another great to time call. It is daily at 11:40 am-    12:25 pm. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns during the year.
