Kindergarten Screening/Registration

The kindergarten screening includes an authentic assessment in the form of a children's storybook which measures progress in the four key principles of early literacy: comprehension, phonological awareness, alphabetic principle and concepts about print.

The Armstrong School District conducts a screening program in the month of March for all children entering kindergarten according to the districts age of entry.  Children will be screening during the kindergarten registration.

During the screening, each child completes a series of tasks at various stations that focus on visual, auditory, and motor areas. In addition, language and other cognitive areas are assessed. Information gathered during the screening is used to enable our staff to create classroom environments that help children grow and learn.

After the screening, parents/guardians receive a summary of the results.
